Marshall L. Buck
(USA)

“I am passionate about automobiles and the work that I do; and this work is certainly as demanding, and sometimes more so than a complete restoration of any significant car.”
—MLB

From childhood he has been fascinated with all types of miniatures, but with a very strong penchant for cars. Marshall has always had a desire to be around exotic and classic automobiles, which was helped along during his childhood by a number of family friends who would often come to visit in the latest Aston Martin, Lancia, Porsche, Rolls Royce, etc.

Marshall’s work background consists of professional studio photography, TV production, and retail sales including a three year stint in high end exotic and luxury car sales at Miller Motorcars. Throughout the years – since childhood, he was building models for himself, and later he built on the side for a few clients. In 1982, with the help and urging of a client, he founded Creative Miniature Associates, Inc. (now CMA Models, Inc.) Since then, he has been involved with high-end automotive miniatures as a collector, model maker, manufacturer, and broker; catering to serious collectors. He says that over the years he has seen more models and real cars than he can count of either, and has put together a great research library for his work.

Marshall has authored a number of articles on models for various publications. He continues to write featured model columns for several automobile magazines, and has guest curated two special model exhibitions for the Stamford Museum and Nature Center in Stamford, Connecticut. Both shows were a resounding success, and the museum was rewarded with record breaking attendance for those two exhibitions, more so than for any of their other shows.

On occasion, Marshall has been hired/contracted by automobile collectors and noted car restorers to critique body shapes of significant cars undergoing restoration. That recognition clearly highlights his ability to see and accurately capture body shapes as well as countless details inside and out on all of his models.

He also had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with the late great model maker Manuel Olive Sans. Marshall was his main agent for the last 10 years of his career/life, and during that time Olive mentored Marshall a bit on some of the finer points of making automotive miniatures.

All of the above background experience and knowledge is what goes into each and every model he creates, and adds to what makes them so special and unique.

Unlike most model makers, Marshall will not exactly duplicate any of his scratch built models. Each work of art is truly one-of-a-kind, and though there have been articles written about Marshall and his work, we feel that words alone can not fully describe the vast and exacting level of detail that makes up each of his models. Look carefully at the photos and you will see.
